FIFTEEN CHEER TEAMS RECEIVE FREE TEAM APPAREL & CHEER SHOES
Team Cheer donates $20,000 in cheer gear to ease the economic pressures to participate
Geneseo, N.Y., August 10, 2010─ Team Cheer provides free cheerleading uniforms, cheer practice wear and youth cheerleading shoes to fifteen western NY cheer teams. This donation enables about 500 children to participate in cheerleading without incurring the full costs of purchasing their cheer gear for the upcoming season.
"This donation continues the efforts to bridge the economic divide and to ensure that children are able to participate in youth sports and are able to develop of self-competence in their skills, self-esteem and moral competence," said Randy Cofield, president and chief executive officer of Team Cheer. "Often times, cheerleading is not classified as a sport and with the recession looming, budgets have been reduced which forces many families to decide if they can pay to have their children play. Through the donation, we hope to lessen the financial burden and to ensure that cheerleading teams do not lose participants because of costs. The uniforms and cheer shoes are needed more than ever."
“Some local organizations are struggling to keep cheerleading participants and programs with the economy the way it is. Team Cheer’s donation has alleviated some of the pressures we’ve been feeling. The donation will be distributed to city and inner city Pop Warner teams and high school teams from Rochester and Buffalo. With these gifts, most of all, the young ladies win.” said Cherry Huurman, cheer director of Western NY Pop Warner.
